The 1st Public Diplomacy Symposium is organized by Marmara University Faculty of Communication between 24-25 April 2025 with the theme of “Public Diplomacy in the Era of Transformation and Türkiye”.

What is the special feature of the symposium?

It is Turkey's first Public Diplomacy Symposium. The 1st Public Diplomacy Symposium aims to bring together academics, experts, and practitioners working in the field of public diplomacy and to create concrete outputs for practice as well as academic literature.

How will the symposium be conducted? Will there be online sessions?

The symposium will be held face-to-face at Marmara University Göztepe Campus. Online sessions will not be held.

Who can participate in the symposium?

In addition to academics, graduate students and public diplomacy experts can apply to the symposium.

I want to participate in the symposium. What should I do?

Please first visit and review our Symposium page. Then read the important notes under the "writing guidelines" tab. You will find a sample template under this tab. In order to participate in the symposium, you must prepare a paper text that complies with the rules.

Is there any fee for the symposium?

Participants are not charged any fees at any stage of the symposium.

What is the language of the symposium?

The symposium accepts papers in Turkish and English.

I prepared my paper text based on the issues you specified in your writing rules. How can I send it to you?

You can send your paper text, which you have prepared according to the sample template, via e-mail to kadis@marmara.edu.tr.

I sent my paper text to the specified e-mail address. Will I receive any notification?

Yes. Once we receive your paper text, we will notify you within a reasonable time that the review process has begun. Please make sure that you have sent your submission to the correct email address and check your email.

How can I find out the evaluation result? Will I be informed?

Candidates who apply to the symposium will not be informed individually as a result of the review. As stated in the important dates section on our symposium page, accepted papers will be announced collectively on our Symposium page. Please take note of the important dates.

How does the process work after I complete my symposium submission?

Following the symposium submission dates, the sessions will be determined by the Symposium Organizing and Executive Committees and the Symposium program will be organized. The symposium program will be announced on our page by April 14, 2025 at the latest.

What should I pay attention to in the presentation?

Using slides during the presentation is optional. Your presentation time is limited to 15 minutes and you must comply with the time.

Can I attend other sessions except mine as a listener?

Yes, you can participate. Listening to other presentations and contributing to your questions during our two-day Symposium will contribute to academic development. In addition, there will be speeches by experts from different fields at various times during the Symposium.

I have successfully presented my paper. What happens next?

The texts of the papers successfully presented will be included in the symposium abstract book, which will be prepared after the completion of the symposium. The symposium abstract book will be available digitally on our website. Afterward, a signed and issued to your name participation certificate will be sent to you via e-mail.

How many papers can I submit to the symposium?

Each participant can participate in the symposium with one paper. This number is limited to two papers in the case of double-authored papers.

Can papers have more than one author?

Yes. Papers can have a maximum of two authors.

Will the full text of the symposium proceedings be published?

The full textbook of the symposium will not be prepared. The full texts have the opportunity to be published in the ESCI-indexed Turkish Review of Communication Studies (TURCOM) journal by re-running the referee process. Participants will be informed about the process separately.

Are accommodation and transportation expenses covered?

Expenses/costs such as accommodation, transportation etc. are the participants' own responsibility.
